Part-Time Communications Coordinator

Are you passionate about social media, creative marketing, and supporting a vibrant local community? Join us as our PT Communications Coordinator.

The Fuquay-Varina Downtown Association (FVDA) is seeking a dedicated and organized Part-Time Communications Coordinator to join our team. This position will play a critical role in managing our communication channels, coordinating events promotions and performing essential communication tasks.

Primary Responsibilities:

Event Launches (about 50% of your time)

  • Design digital and printable event flyers

  • Build and manage event pages that excite and engage

  • Create and implement timelines for announcements and promotions

  • Pre-Event Buzz: Share sponsorship highlights, ticket info, featured vendors & entertainment

  • Live Updates: Post winners, activities, and real-time event moments

  • Post-Event Follow-Up: Thank-you messages, community recaps, and shoutouts

Ongoing Engagement Tasks:

  • Organize and format Monthly newsletter content

  • Social Media Monitoring: Share posts, spotlight downtown businesses, celebrate local stories & heritage, and post FVDA news

  • Calls to Action: Craft posts encouraging participation—likes, follows, surveys, donations, volunteer sign-ups, and more

  • Produce educational and promotional reels and videos

  • Send event/activity details to engaged audiences via non-social media avenues

  • Create and post other content as needed

Secondary Responsibilities

As you become more familiar with the organization and your role, we envision that the right candidate will expand their knowledge & responsibilities by supporting the organization with things such as website development (Squarespace), communication strategy reviews, and drafting a communication plan.

Position Details

  • Location: This position may be remote; however, preference will be given to applicants residing in Fuquay-Varina. Regular in-office presence will be required.

  • Hours: 10–20 hours per week. While scheduling is flexible, increased availability is expected during the weeks surrounding major events.

  • Compensation: $17–$20 per hour, commensurate with experience.

  • Must be 18 or older

Qualifications

We’re looking for a creative self-starter who thrives in dynamic environments and brings ideas to life with clarity, warmth, and a love for local connection.

  • Experience managing social media platforms, bonus if you’ve already worked with organizations or brands

  • Strong writing and content creation skills (posts, reels, flyers)

  • Eye for design and attention to detail

  • Organized, proactive, and creative approach to planning

  • Interest in local business, history, and community engagement

  • Experience working with non-profit organizations is a plus
